Can't run Minecraft.exe on my desktop

I can play Minecraft in the browser, but I want to play it on my desktop, fullscreen.
But this is the problem:
I start up Minecraft.exe, the login screen comes up, I type in my username and password. I hit login, and then it just stops, nothing happens. the game freezes on the login screen.
It works on my laptop, but I want it to work on my desktop computer.
please help

hey man mine sort of does the same but mine closes it self after i log in i might just wait till the beta only in a few days yewwwwwwwwwwwwww
