I made this account years ago and I want to change my name. If you can add a feature where people over (number) points or something like that could change names, I'm sure many people will be happy. You could also make it so people can only make (number) amount of name changes.
Also while we're on the topic of name changes, what about purchasable nicknames for smp, sortof like the way warps work where a user can ask staff to change their nick, and it charges the player for it.
I do know that neither of these fuctions are needed, but they're some things I think will make World of Minecraft better.

Maybe not name changes to avoid confusion, but what about titles. Like would appear under the name when looking at a player. For example:
veteran: more than 1 yr at World of Minecraft.
miner: more than 10k blocks mined
builder: more than 10k blocks placed
traveler: move more than 100 km
explorer: found more than 10 biomes/biome variants
collector: have more than 50 block/entity types in your chests
you guys get the idea and we could select which earned title to display.

As I said staff would be controlling nicks, so there shouldn't be multiple people named the same thing, but a public /showname command to see the origional username would help against confusion.

We're not going to add purchasable nicknames on the server. It would be useless, as Mojang is currently in the process of adding name changing for in 1.8.

I agree Niels, that's why suggested titles. But with the update including name changing and all the block I'd changes, staff probably has enough to keep them occupied :)
