About the desktop backgrounds

Soooooooo...
I was wondering if you could make a "realistic" minecraft texture desktop background.
Like the wasteland background, but for realistic.
OR you could just take out the blue text on the picture on the site, and it would be the same.

Also, I don't think the link for your "puzzle" works...

EDIT/A QUESTION I FORGOT: Can you translate those .rar files into .zip files? cause I hadn't realized I would need to BUY winrar eventually...

I have just released a big

I have just released a big update to my Realistic pack, it now covers survival mode. I reskinned every texture possible (except water.png, no sense in changing that). Pictures of the new mobs and UI can be found at the site, as well as an updated download link. Go check it out!

Sorry for such the long downtime. As of five minutes ago, the servers have been restored. It was a large scale datacenter outage, which is why it took so long for me to get it back up.

This is not dead. In fact, I update it frequently. So frequently I feel it's not worth the time to upload it. I've been skinning all the shiny new indev textures as they come out :D. As soon as all the indev features are put into a final product, I will release a massive update. I may or may not update Willy Wonka and Wasteland for new textures, I haven't decided.

Oh yeah, and when I do release all that, I will move my site to www.seanmp.tumblr.com .

New OP time! A lot has changed since the last OP. Some big updates:

1. My site has moved to http://seanmp.tumblr.com. I will be using this site to keep things updated.

2. Realistic texture pack updated to version 10. Things are brighter now, it was too depressing before.

3. My Willy Wonka and Wasteland texture packs are gone just for the moment. I will be bringing them back and updated after all those shiny new indev textures are put into a final product :).

[3/5/09 Updates]: I have added completely 'new' armors to the game. Instead of having the same design for iron/leather/diamond/gold armors, they each have a unique design. I have also redone all the mobs besides the spider. They didn't quite fit in with the new textures. More small tweaks to everything else really.

I realized that the cobblestone texture was purple. It’s now more rock-like.
Totally new splash screen and loading screen.
Changed coal ore texture to make it easier to spot

Here's the realistic pack. Instead of having two separate downloads, I just stick the creative files in a folder named Creative.

Also, if anyone is interested. I made this texture pack for WoM: Citybuild. It's just a mod of my realistic to make it more suited for modern cities. TNT is C4, cloth blocks are colored concrete, gold/iron/obsidian/diamond are metals, etc.

The whole set looks awesome but when I re-added it to infdev today I got "Critical Error 7" AND I didn't back up the minecraft.jar before testing... :/

Both the sets look nice but personally I would prefer a mix of both. The way the full metal blocks look is much nicer than the realistic pack metal but the ore being bars would bother me in infdev.

Realistic Update + New way to install textures

I have updated the readme and this post to show how to get textures working on the official client.

Quote:

1. The .jar file is located at

C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data.minecraft\bin

2. Right click minecraft.jar and open it up with whatever zip program you use (WinRAR, 7zip, etc.)

3. Do the same for the .zip of the texture pack you downloaded. If the creator packaged it right, you should just be able drag and drop all the files into the other. Select every file in the texture pack zip, then drag/drop them into minecraft.jar

4. Load up the game via the site or the downloadable client!

Note: Any time there is an update, it will redownload minecraft.jar, so you have to redo this process.

Also here's a small update to realistic, adds in the textures Notch added. I see what I believe to be Coral below the leaves, but they aren't in game yet so no sense in skinning them.

You have the wrong terrain.png in the folder. Click on the creative folder and use that one.
