I am not trying to host a server, I just want to play minecraft multiplayer.
but everytime I try to do so, this happens:
-On creative MP
Failed to connect.
You failed to connect to the server, It's probably down.
and On the new SMP
Failed to connect tot he server
Connection timed out: connect.
wat do?
I have searched this, and many other forums, for similar questions, but have turned up trumps.
please, just help in any way you can.

on SMP
it says timed out: connect if the server is off
CMP
the server is just off
on CMP do you use the World of Minecraft client? if so you even see server list?
on SMP are you SURE you use the good IP for the server
if its wrong IP then that is what causes it

I use the wow client and I do see the list, but I can never join.
and on SMP I can guarantee you, on every single server, with all the IPs correctly pasted in, I cannot get past that screen.
I am guessing that its an issue with the modem/router as I have changed computers twice at home (router remains the same) and the result has always been the same: "failed to connect: server is probably down"
any clues as to what I should tamper around with on my router?

offtopic: so youre using a world of warcraft client fpr minecraft? lol
ontopic: i gues your firewall is blocking the client from accesing the internet or something

Can you connect to anything not World of Minecraft? Because last I checked all servers were down except World of Minecraft: Desert. So yea, that would be why you cant connect to those.

It worked for me, press start then type %appdata% then press on AppData>Local>Temp>www.minecraft.net and delete www.minecraft.net its a temporary file it wont effect your computer in any way.

Hi well ive had the problem for ages and it is literally infront of your face. Its JAVA!! You need to get the java version Java 6 Update 24 heres the link....http://www.oldapps.com/java.php?old_java=72?download (this will download it straight away) after that go onto ol panel and unistall all the other java versions :)
