This guide tells you how to host a minecraft server using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) NO PORT FORWARDING REQUIRED!

What is a VPN?
Ok first you are probably wondering what a VPN actually is, A VPN is like your home network except instead of using the cables in your house to connect the computers together it uses the internet. A VPN works in much the same way as your own home LAN.
How do I make a VPN?
The simplest and easiest way to create a VPN is by using Hamachi by LogMeIn, it is a free VPN client that allows you to create and join VPNs (Virtual private networks) and can be downloaded from this link: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi2/download.aspx click the Download Now button and follow the setup wizard.
Once you have Hamachi installed you need to create your  network, do this by going to network, create new network, give your network your desired ID and password and click OK.
How do I get other people to join my network?
when you first install Hamachi it will ask you if you want to join a network, enter the ID and password, alternatively go to network, join an existing network, and get them to enter the ID and password here, then click join.
Every time you turn on your computer Hamachi will automaticaly start and connect to the VPN.
How do I and others connect to my minecraft server?
To connect to the server go into Hamachi and find the IP address of the computer hosting the minecraft server (if you are hosting it, the IP address will be at the top), then enter this IP address into the multiplayer menu in minecraft.

Note:YOU DO NOT NEED TO PORT FORWARD TO USE A VPN

Is a VPN secure?
Yes Hamachi uses encryption and passwords to make sure that your nework/connection is secure, also no-one can connect to your network unless the have both the ID and password.
You are able to browse the other people on the networks computers, but this requires the username and password of the computer in question.
You should now be able to use a VPN, well done you just learnt some of higher computer :) lol.... hope this guide helps!
ALSO IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE POST THEM UNDER THIS GUIDE!     and ffs READ it before asking random questions that are completely off topic!!!!!!!

Hamachi and logging in

I have done all of this as you posted....followed it to the tee and it tells my friend (who has a premium account) that user is not premium. what is this? i have re-downloaded the server software again, and installed hamachi yesterday and have not been able to login YET. getting very frustrated here. i cannot login either. yes the server is running. yes we are both successfully logged into hamachi but when opening the game, neither of us is allowed to play on the multiplayer server. yes i have the correct IP listed.

OK

eh, im not to sure about this, but are you guys running MC beta? and the beta software. also can you give me some idea of what your machines are running? i.e. Win7, Linux, Mac. And if possible a screen shot of the error would be greatly appreciated. Still trying to figure out what this might be.

?

Is this coming from hamachi

if it is then the problem is that you are trying to link together a premium account and a non premium account. The easiest way to get round this is. Either. 1. get your friend who has the premium account to also get the non-premium version. but that might not work. 2. ask for the hamachi login username that you friend is using and then put it in the preferences bit of hamachi.
Hope this helps

Hi, I also got that problem

Hi, I also got that problem when connecting to my own server by the client.

So I figured it had to be a server-problem.
Try go into your server.properties, and delete the ip you have by your "server-ip=", leaving it blank. This worked for me and others outside of my local network could connect without a problem (still inside the VPN ).
Cheers
