A few questions about the Alpha server

As we all know, the 2 World of Minecraft SMP servers have been down for a good few weeks. I read somewhere on the forums that the World of Minecraft Alpha server code is being upgraded and rewritten, which is fair enough. I wouldnt expect major bugs like spawn crashing and losing stacks of diamond blocks when you move them to be fixed overnight. I could not find these answers anywhere else on the forum, so, if possible, I would like to know:
Will the SMP servers be reset? (I hope not!)
How much longer will the servers be down?
Will there be more SMP servers?
Are there to be mod and admin positions in SMP, once it is up again?
I hope my questions are answerable.
