setting up client in ubuntu HELP PLEASE

i've downloaded the program to my windows machine already (i'm sure some people have seen me around the minecraft world) and after getting a new router and getting wireless internet up again, i decided to download World of Minecraft onto my ubuntu machine.
i'd appreciate if someone could help me step-by-step to set it up, as i'm not very fluent in linux. i'm not sure where to put what, what to do with what, all that stuff. it may be easier for some people to just show me "before and after" steps so i can just look at what i have and then enter what i SHOULD have. well, until i get to compiling and stuff like that, which i haven't done anything of the sort before. at that point, you'll need to tell me what to do cuz i haven't worked with compiler programs or anything.
