A Strange Problem

I've been using the World of Minecraft 1.5.1 client for a while now and have experienced no problems.
However, the last two times I've used the client, my laptop would randomly and without warning power off.
This has only happened when using the client, and I'm not sure what is happening. Any ideas?
I'm using a Compaq Presario C700 with 2GB RAM, 150GB HDD and Windows Vista Home Premium.
