Can't run Minecraft

Hi. I just purchased and installed Minecraft on my sons computer but it will not load. I've installed JAVA but it's still not starting when we log-in. The platform is Windows XP. It starts to download but then it stops, like i misses a small program or so to really start. I've tried it on my Mac Book and it's working just fine on that (but I need my Mac for my self :-)

so.. ur saying that when u click the World of Minecraft client icon nothing happens?
or is this about minecraft.net? classic or beta? its a good chance it is java. try some of these links to see if java is running on ur computer:

if its not running then i suggest u completly remove java from ur computer and reinstall it from this link:
http://www.java.com/en/
and only download that 1. if it still doesnt work then i dont know what else to suggest.
