For people who don't use it for wom realms, the client has only changed for the worse, since 1.6.x. If you could spare the time, do update the old version just so it can login again.

And besides, all of the older versions will no longer work with the login as minecraft.net changed something with its login. 1.9.0 is the only way you can log in using username/password.
