Whenever I connect to a minecraft server I get this: You failed to connect to the server. It's probably down! It happens on World of Minecraft and minecraft.net. I have java and all of my firewalls are turned off, even my antivirus. I have a really good internet connection. Can someone please help me?

ok

ok think i fixed it for myself atleast. Try resetting your router. It may have made some weird ip address that conflicted with the client or something...

Oi!

I can't connect to any mc classic servers either!
Well, I guess that's not entirely true..

I tried joining my own MCForge server, and it says I connected successfully, but I still just get the "You failed to connect to the server. It's probably down!" screen.

Thanks ryanknack, that post was helpful

Thanks ryanknack, that post was very helpful.

To elabourate on the topic: http://www.worldofminecraft.com/content/java-7-and-World of Minecraft-clientclassic-minecraft
Java runtime or JDK version 6 update 35 will also work. I installed the jdk for this version. Oracle's site required an account to download update 32 so I didn't even bother with that.

The JDK 6u35 can be found here:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk6u35-downloads-1836443.html

The JRE 6u35 can be found here:

Anyways, I hope this helps anyone who is having trouble with finding a version that will work with the classic minecraft client.
