The same here.

I don't understand why does this happen if it's not because of a defectuous update. I can't see neither why could be this issue related to the server's down state.

Any ideas?

Windows Blinds?

Are you using windows blinds and all? If so unload your theme and give it a try, i also noticed some mods give a black screen if you install them wrong.

My fix

I've tried a lot of different fixes, but after a while I found that installing Java Runtime Environment fixed everything for me. Here is the 64-bit version:

Easy and fast working fix.

Fix

If you are recieving a black screen after logging in, replace your minecraft jar with a backup wich everyone should have considering this game is a beta. common sense

ive tried all these things, deleted .bin, deleted .jar, forced update, updated java, ran as admin, ran in XPSP2 compatibility mode. i still get a blank screen right after login, or if i run from my computer instead of browser, the program just closes.

Drivers

Umm I know this is kind of an obvious thing but you would be surprised of the people who miss this. You need to have an up-to-date graphics driver to cooperate with java. I'm not just talking about going to windows and checking for updates I mean if you have a Nvidia graphics card go to their site and download the latest drivers. Same with AMD if you have an on board AMD graphics processor go to their site and download the latest drivers (make sure its the graphics driver, not the processor driver, which is usually ATI).

This will also should be the first thing to try to fix sound problems with minecraft also. Except with your sound drivers.

Mods.

That black screen may be a result of you trying to change something in the minecraft folder, or downloading a mod but put it in the wrong place. This happened to me once so if you did recently get into the minecraft folder, im guessing this is you problem.

fix

this worked for me.  I got the black screen suddenly after I updated my version to the 16.whatever and i couldn't get into it.  The fix that worked for me was getting rid of my texture pack.  I think maybe that if you've updated to the 16.0 version then your 15.0 version texture pack will mess up Minecraft.  Hope this helps.

bin

I had this problem too, just click the start button for windows 7 or vista, type %appdata% then open roaming folder, then click .minecraft and then delete the "bin". Then open minecraft and it will create a new bin an it will work. The only problem is that it will delete all of your mods

deleting is not fixing it

Hi

I got a black screen to.
Been playing it, but after installing win7 64 it is now just getting a black screen.
I did try to put in the portal mod before starting the game, was not able to copy files into the .jar file via winrar. (Still havent understood how to install mods) so i restored the file meta-inf from trashbin and tried to start the game. Just a black screen after login. I can force update but get a black screen after that.
If i delete the whole .minecraft folder it still comes up with the black screen after initialization.

Papasmurf is right

It worked with me. You must only delete the bin. Not the whole folder.

Success

Tried again to see if i could get in and now it was able to play :)

I did nothing. Maybe the computer just needed time?!?
I have just set up an old laptop from 2007 with windows 7 64, it might not take it as well as i hoped even though everything seems ok.
Thanks for the help though :D

Mods

If you got the blackscreen after installing mods you have obviously installed it wrong, which causes blackscreen. Make sure when you install a mod you delete the meta-inf folder in your minecraft.jar folder which is inside your bin folder inside your .minecraft folder.

Have fun, dhall10

Black Screen, no fix works

I've tried every single fix out there, and 2 different vid cards. Can't get it to work on my native computer, only via browser.

It's really disappointing that this error, which so many people seem to have (with up to date graphics cards), has yet to even be addressed.

java temporary files

have you tried deleting the  java temporary files..
but first uninstall all jave from control panel
Windows 7 and Vista - Uninstall Programs

  1. Click Start
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Select Programs
  4. Click Programs and Features
  5. Select the program you want to uninstall by clicking on it, and then click the Uninstall button.

You may need administrator privileges to remove programs.

Windows XP - Uninstall Programs

  1. Click Start
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Click the Add/Remove Programs control panel icon
  4. The Add/Remove control panel displays a list of software on your
system, including any Java software products that are on your computer.
Select any that you want to uninstall by clicking on it, and then click
    the Remove button.

now delete all java temporary files.. delete all files in folder 6.0 in this example..

Windows 7 java temporary files location.

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\SystemCache\6.0

the locations may be different for your operating system!!..now restart your computer and  reinstall the latest java..

from http://www.java.com

now try reinstalling minecraft..

hope this helps with some peeps

peace, love & repect

...

The black screen is 9 out of 10 times due to either running a mod and it isn't working right, or a corrupt jar file. Try running the client without mods. Also, go get digiex Mcvtool it will allow you to not only run minecraft but also download jars as you need them...
