Not sure if this is the right section, but here we go:
I wanted very badly to try out optifine (no it didn't fix the white text like some think), anywho if you have modloader installed, you will know that optifine has compatibility issues with modloader and hence won't work. I am the type of person who comes to a roadblock like this and simply won't stop until I find a fix.
I ended up stumbling onto this little gem called Magic Launcher, which can be found here: Magic Launcher Download. This launcher by far destroys the current Minecraft Launcher. It shows multiple tabs of twitter feeds from the Mojang crew, to Minecraft Wiki (for us noobs).
The killer part of this software, is that it allows you to run mods, without ever affecting the minecraft.jar...
This allowed me to run both optifine and modloader, and my one mod reis minimap. This also allows you to pick jar files to use for those of us who have many jar files with many different mods or changes to each, and still run separate mods on each. What's even cooler, is you can save multiple settings as well. So you don't have to keep going back and selecting different jars and then modding them again. You can just save the settings and then select it to go back to that setting.
You can also affect how much memory the java is using, whether or not the game starts up maximized, and even a custom size the window starts up at. I have only named a few things this launcher can do, you will have to just find out for yourself the rest of the glory that is this launcher.
I will state this, start out with a clean jar file before using it. Enjoy!
