Strongholds on Pre 1.8 saves

The save for my single player minecraft world on my computer was created before strongholds were added to the game

my question is since thats the case will strongholds not spawn on this world?

They will be in game

They will be. As long as you go further from where you spawned, as it is the world chunks that contain the update.

Maybe, if you're lucky

You must load a new chunk for a stronghold to spawn.  There is only a small chance one will spawn if yo do go to a new part of your world.

WorldEdit

There's a worldedit tool that you can use to regenerate certain parts of the world to its original state in 1.8. If you manage to find a stronghold location you can regenerate it using WorldEdit (it's a bukkit plugin, not sure if there's a mod for that).


I haven't tested this out yet but maybe you should look into MCEdit. That program may have some terrain regeneration features.
