The Stickied/locked thread claims the Authentication error to have been solved, but I just downloaded the new 2.0.7 client and have been unable to log on because of it. Is this a resurgence of the problem or did 2.0.7 not get the necessary fix? Is there a fix that I somehow missed?

Absolutely confident. I verified my username and password with the Website and have been using the Website version of the classic game while I wait for a solution for World of Minecraft.

Not sure about this, the client definitely got the fix it needed, and my client is working fine right now. Also no other complaints about it not working.
And if you are sure that you are using the right username and password then this is very odd.
First thing I would suggest is delete all trace of the client from your computer and re-download it.
This shouldn't make a difference, but make sure that your java is up to date.
Also try logging in with direct connect or by using the resume button.

Would you be able to tell me how to find the Direct connect URL in Chrome? The Resume button only shows up once I've reached a server for the first time I imagine, and that hasn't occurred yet with this client.

Well there is a way that you can get the direct connect by finding the server on minecraft.net, then right clicking and choosing inspect element, I just can't remember exactly what format you need to input it into the client

Turns out I'm just an idiot. I did in fact have my password wrong.
