Hi All,

I just downloaded the game for my son on our Mac OS X 10.6.8. We paid for the download and registered properly, but when we launch Minecraft, we hear the music but all we see is a black screen with a bar across the bottom that seems to be a very very small part of the game. I've included a screen shot for your viewinng pleasure. Can anybody tell what the problem is and how to fix it?

Thank you

I'd suggest making sure your java is up to date.

Same with graphics drivers.

I haven't worked with macs in almost a year now though so I'm pretty rusty.

I also don't work with macs very often, but I did a bit of digging around for you. This topic offers a few suggestions that might work for you, including whitelisting a certain website if you're using any firewalls on the computer, and also downloading a patch for java.

Also, since you mentioned it was for your son, I thought I'd mention that I recently had trouble setting up minecraft on a friend of mines computer for her son. It turns out that a lot of anti-virus/firewall programs block minecraft from running when they're turned up too high. I recommend disabling any and all firewall programs and seeing if it will start correctly then, and then starting them one at a time to figure out what's blocking it. But only if non of the suggestions at the above link work.

Hmmm. Sorry we couldn't be more help. My last advice would just be to completely wipe minecraft from your computer, and then download the whole thing again, if you haven't already. Sometimes that seems to randomly solve people's issues.

A complete wipe might also involve removing minecraft / java prefs files.

If I recall rightly macs are always creating those pref file things
