Here are somethings you could be doing instead of cheating that will get you banned!
For diamonds set up a mine- Dig in two squares so you dont fall in lava and place ladders as you go down so you can access it easily. then once you hit bed rock dig four up and clear out a square. ( or rectangle) Then skipping every 2 blocks you start digging tunnels. This is not only effective to finding all sorts of shineys but will make finding diamonds a breeze!
For emeralds- most people know that you can trade in things like wheat for emeralds at villages but just in case you didn't give it a shot it works.
Just go gathering! It's actually pretty fun and you will feel really great about what you have made if you have to work for it!
Don't cheat please it hurts the realm it hurts you and its just not worth it!

No really, if you like cheating then you'll miss out on all the fun.
I do mining too and find lots of things and some nice sunrises.
Go out on big walks about and fine lot of stuff and meet other players. Often they may give me something and I to them as well. Get to see how their place is build for building ideas.
At one time have had found a big rip in the minecraft SMP universe, and had brought it to the attention of the staff. They said I can have it. It was yippee and so get to harvest chests after chests after chests, all full of all kinds of really good stuff.
So yeah, cheat if you like but as I said, you really get to miss out on all the fun, and the goodies too. You may as well be in single creative player mode!
