I was wondering if anyone could help me in copying a the old Public SMP Map, so that I can continue building on it in Single Player, after the Map is discontinued.

There is a mod out there somewhere which converts loaded chunks into a schematic file I believe but not the whole map.
If you want the whole map then you are going to have to ask H4X.
