Dunno.

I was hit by an earthquake earlier when I was on a road trip. Don't know exactly where though.

I felt it in PA

‎5.9 magnitude, epicenter 9 miles from Mineral, Virginia. Earthquakes travel farther on the east coast due to geological makeup, plus it had a shallow hypocenter.

NO, it is not a sign of the world ending in 2012. I'm so sick of people believing in that crap. Earthquakes east of the Rockies are not uncommon!! Central VA is a known seismic zone with a long history of quakes (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/states/virginia/history.php), along with the NE states and South Carolina, and of course the biggest one, the New Madrid seismic zone.

IT WAS FUN!

I'm over in baltimore and this is the first earthquake I've been in. IT WAS AWESOME! Everyone else in my house was running outside, I was just kicking my feet up and laughing. Is that normal?

To answer your question, maybe

Maybe it's normal, but since you live in Baltimore, where you have skyscrapers, it probably isn't, since some skyscrapers come down like a Jenga tower.

Well, quakes are expected

Well, quakes are expected there. People don't usually associate the East Coast of the USA with quakes, being that it's far from plate boundaries and volcanoes, and are therefore unprepared for it. Plus, due to the geology of the east coast, the quake was felt from Canada to Florida. But I'm a nerd and a geology nut, so I've long known that quakes, even large ones, have happened in the east in the past and would happen again one day, so I am kinda ROFL at people getting overly-excited about it, although I'm sure it sucks for people near the epicenter. I felt a tremoring in the floor with my feet a little over an hour ago and checked the USGS site; sure enough VA had just had a 4.5 aftershock.

Little Fact for you all.

As most of you know, Hurricane Irene is going to hit the East Coast. Coincidentally, there was a hurricane that hit the East Coast back in 1944, which was quite devastating. But the coincidence is that before it hit, there was an 5.9 earthquake.

Also, the Washington Monument formed cracks during the earthquake, and is now closed due to obvious reasons of possible collapsing, and schools were evacuated and closed so city inspectors could check the foundations.
