Is there any way to equip custom skins etc. without paying?

custom skin cost money HAHAHAHHA that makes me giggle!
HAH no you don't all you have to do is press Start key "R" and open the run window. then you search %appdata% and press ok or enter. then you locate .minecraft and go to bin and locate either minecraft.jar or their should be another underneath it called minecraft-1.2.3.jar (or something like that) then you open that with 7zip or winrar and go to mobs. locate char.png that should be your character. now take the custom skin and rename it char.png and replace the one in minecraft.jar (or minecraft-1.2.3.jar <--- this is the one I used) and exit when your done then run minecraft and VOILA you have a new custom skin! hope this helped! :)

No there is not. As far as i know you need to pay to use a custom skin.
