I have no problem with big builds, just as long as they are actually worth building and have a good design. 
The main reason I got the server was for my big builds and to play with some friends.
I do nightly backups.
I don't use many addons, other than hMod just because I don't see a point for them unless they fix something notch broke.
After the latest patch I disabled all animals, pvp and monsters. Mainly because they were all broken lol.
