okay so, i guess you should start again, download the software you are using, put your server up, connect to it with 'localhost' make sure everything is in check, then turn the server off and port forward, for a correct guide click here, once that is done tell your frineds the IP, for example, 149.145.13.5:25565.

for you to connect to your server you should have the IP as 'localhost', for others the IP should be your public IP adress which you can see here.
