Hey everyone.

I signed up onto this forum to get this question answered :)

I am dying to play minecraft because I have seen my friends play it. I also want to install tekkit and HD texture packs. Unfortunately, recently my laptop broke and I am looking to buy a new one, but I only want to buy one that I can be sure will play all the games I need.

I am looking for a laptop that is not over $900, and can play the following games without any trouble:

  • Minecraft (with mods and texture packs, and multiplayer)
  • Portal 2
  • Sims 3
  • Steam

I am not an incredibly hardcore gamer, but I need to be able to play these applications/ games.

I really need your help!

And to make it easier, I have done some research and found a couple of laptops that I think would work well but I am not sure (for I am such a computer novice).

ALSO: Is Intel HD 3000 really bad? Because I found an amazing laptop but it has that Graphic card. Would I be able to play anything?

Recommended hardware

You'll need good hardware. If you want to play good games with awesome performance and graphics, you'll need lots of RAM. If you want to play the games with maximum FPS, you should have an 8gig RAM and a 64-bit operating system. You'll also need a good graphics card for that and a good processor(like Intel CORE). If you have 8gig RAM and a 32-bit operating system, it's kinda useless. 32-bit operating systems limit to access 3.2gig RAM. Note that buying 8gig RAM and 64bit operating system is REALLY expensive.

If you can't afford this, then you can still play Minecraft even without the best graphics and stuff. You'll need an 32-bit operating system, a good graphics card (32-bit. I have a nVidia Geforce with CUDA.), a fine processor (Mine's Intel Pentium. Works good.) and atleast 4gig of RAM. I use this. (My PC is a COMPAQ Presario Notebook. I think it costs $700.) Here's how it looks like on your specified games:

-Minecraft: Works great on Normal distance and graphics set to "Fast". HD texture packs may give blank images. Don't know why.

-Portal 2: Works great with the lowest graphics, and works fine with medium graphics. Best graphics start to lag.

-Sims 3: Never played.

-Steam: I'm not sure what you mean, because Steam is used to buy games and play games.

Some games I have:

-Raptisoft Hamsterball: Works awesome.

-The Setllers: Rise of an Empire: Lag.. About 15 fps.

-TF2: Working great.

And last, for your Intel HD 3000, go to this link: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-3000.37948.0.html

Hope this helps!

In my opinion, you'd want at least a Intel HD 4000 series but an graphics card from Nvidia usually can't go wrong ;D

Thankyou so much! :D But I

Thankyou so much! :D But I have ONE more question... :P

I am pretty set and I think I shall purchase this computer:

http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/samsung/15-inch-notebook-sku-88523/

As it is very cheap and the graphics card is able to handle mid-range gaming. But I am starting to grow skeptical of the CPU.

AMD Dual Core A6-4400m 2.7ghz Apu

Would this CPU/ APU be good enough to play multiplayer minecraft (with mods) with no or little lag?

Also, how can I tell if it is 64-bit windows? Cause I really want that... and is there anything else that may be a bit dodgy with this laptop?

Thankyou so much! :D

PC all the way.

Hey, You need windows 7 Home or, If you can find it, gaming. They are great. In system requirements for most games they say different Windows requirements. Usually not HP or Mac. I this is not youre cup of tea, Try to get a computer with lots of RAM and if its not too expensive, A video card. Hope I helped!
