How do i fix low FPS in minecraft?

i need help on how to make my fps go up without turning on fog. i know you can change the amount of ram that a java object uses, but my compy only has 1gb of ram and a 2.1ghz processor. does anybody know of a way to fix this?

Heh, I have a Radeon HD 5870 (one of the fastest consumer cards available), Intel Core i7 920, and 6GB of memory. With no fog, even I still lag a bit.

You can't really do anything more than what you said other than closing other processes or buying more RAM.
