How do you run a shop on the SMP server?

I have seen shops around but I don't understand how they work. I would like to set up a little shop in my farm but I can't find the information anywhere about how they work. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, I always thought that you just get some stuff to sell, get some signs, give suitable prices, and a place to sell the stuff... That's how I always did mine anyway. I never got much business, because my house/shop wasn't in a very popular spot. You just learn this stuff as you go along, and you learn from other people's shops :)
