The problem is clearly the material you're throwing the enderpearl onto.
For best results you need to throw the enderpearl directly onto a players head.
This will help cushion your landing.

Now I understand that players heads are a mighty small target to hit, so what I suggest before you move on to enderpearls is start with snowballs then move up to eggs.

This I present uncle spuds guide to enderpearls:

1 Fill your inventory with snowballs and eggs.

2 Find a player, Ideally someone soft and squishy looking. (Badgers and Pandas are especially good for this)

3 Throw as many snowballs and eggs at the players head as possible in the shorted ammount of time.
    This will train you to quickly enderpearl on demand whenever you need.

4 Mission accomplished! You are now the master of enderpearling, the other players on the server will be in awe of your new talents.

The player head your targeting may experiences dizziness, headaches, nausea, blackouts and possible bruising of the head. If symotoms persist, then please discontinue doing, and go see your nearest monitor.
