I can't load a map

With the client in single player. ;-; I was working on a project in my browser and found out about the client. Found out that you could fly, which is exactly what I have been wanting.
So I downloaded the client all excited to find I can't load maps...period the option in the ESC menu is grayed out. Any ideas?
