Honestly either they are

Honestly either they are lying or you have possibly encountered a glitch. I'm not sure exactly what is going on but if you don't have beta I wouldn't think you'd have a skin. The World of Minecraft Client doesn't change your own skin, only the skin of other players (as far as I know/heard) But hey, if you have a skin and you are a free player, why be worried?

If you do not have beta,

If you do not have beta, there is no possible way (that i've ever heard of, and doubt ever will) that you can wear a skin. With the World of Minecraft:Client you can put skins on other people, so people running around you are wearing that skin (only you can see it).

well...

simple method to check if you are wearing a skin.

step 1. make an alternate account.

step 2. login with both of your accounts on the same server.

step 3. using your alternate account manouver so you are looking at your main account.

step4. using your eyes look at your main account and distinguish whether or not your main account is wearing a skin.
