I got my parents laptop for christmas this year (YAY).Its kinda old but it works that all i care about. So the first thing i did was install minecaft and i can get to the login screen i click "login" then "play offline". then the bar loads about 95% of the way then reads "done loading". then the wiindow goes to black then exits out of minecraft. I've already tried redownloading java and that didnt work. Also i UN-then REinstalled minecraft and that didnt work either.
If it counts for anything im running it on XP(32bit) with 1.6ghz and 512ram. would it help if i had more ram??? i just thought i would ask before i went out and blew all my money. Any tips you guys could give me would be great, please comment ASAP PLEASE

The spec. of the laptop isn't too bad and it should be able to handle the game, although you're not likely to be running the game with all the ingame video/graphics settings in high quality.
And as The_Rich points out you do have to log in at least once with a valid account to enable the play offline option.

you cant tell it to play offline the first time your installing it you have to log in where it logs in online with out you saying offline the first time
