So not too long ago, I think someone made a post on here, or another forum, talking about how infdev is gonna be 8 times the size of Earth, and that with the ability to make basically anything, we would have towns and cities, with roads connecting them. There would also hopefully be vehicles, and well, this got me thinking. What if, your class (read: social status) was determined strictly by your skill in shooting/building structures/making objects. We would have de facto nations, with all the little nooblets running around like zerglings trying to grief stuff, which would be seen as vagrants, and truly skilled players, wishing to keep in spirit of the game, were the only real ones able to have any kind of society at all through teamwork of skilled shooter protecting the structures, and skilled artisans/architects making buildings and crafts. I nearly peed myself thinking about this.

Okay, firstly, take a chill pill. Don't freak out, man!

Secondly, I don't think the world-like spaces will ever come to multiplayer. Not in a long time, at least. But huge servers with cities and roads and deserts etc will be exciting. Specifically as they can't be flooded with things, because there'll be a limit on blocks.

And thirdly, as with any game, World of Minecraft and other servers will retain OPs and Admin, reserved areas will be built, and grief can be /rollback'd.

Though ideally pk and in-character methods would be a lovely way to fix things, there will likely be pk and non-pk servers to handle this too.

On a brighter note, on a server without hax (or OP only hax), you could then build moats of lava around the spawn, with no building materials to make a bridge.

The future is indeed an exciting and scary one, but I don't think it'll fall into the hands of griefers, especially as only people with accounts will be able to play survival multiplayer.

On another note I just realized how mundane my response was.

I suggest we band together to form a government of our new city, Novus Clausus ("New Block" in Latin).

How will we find all the materials to build our new city?

To be honest, I can't wait to be a fletcher. I'm hoping Notch won't develop pre-defined classes (i.e. swordsman, bowman). That could really ruin the game. Instead, I'd just like to make it my business to seek resources for bows and arrows, and sell them in a shop. Possibly for gold. Maybe a different currency.

IMO the owners of the servers

IMO the owners of the servers should discuss something

1 server may have to be building only or something

1 for killing monsters

and 1 for PK and everything stated above

I don't think reserved areas for building are the way to go..if you want to build go onto creative mode...but for those who want a challenge try build something cool while fending off monsters and darkness...then recruit some people to guard it day and night...or even trap some monsters on your build and free them before going...

I think we can all agree Hax should not be a part of the new survival thing, except for OPs.

I think one server should be paradise, one normal mode for monsters, and one PK mode.

You then have to ask yourself- once PK mode and free-for-all is introduced, will there technically be any griefing any more?

no...and people that cry

no...and people that cry about griefers in survival are ether

1. crying because they house got burnt down
or
2. Can't play the game properly and got robbed

no offence but if your going to cry about griefers at least try put up a fight instead of remaking the house and just acting like its creative

Boojamon, I definitely agree

Boojamon, I definitely agree and accept your idea to start up a government. Yes, I suppose I should calm down, but the prospect of what all this could mean has me very excited for the future of minecraft, hell even gaming as a whole. I was thinking for making a city, you would have a government/clan set up, and the designated leader(s) would have a block specifically for them, wherein they use that to sort of show that the city is theirs. There's a way I was thinking of doing this that may be difficult.
I've noticed on some servers, stepping on a block produces a message. Well, what if these leader blocks had a certain perimeter they emitted, say a couple hundred blocks in a full circle. And upon entering this invisible intangible barrier, there is a message that says "Now entering: (town name like Novus Clausus)" And when leaving, would say the opposite. These blocks would effectively make borders, and if possible through coding, when the border touches ground blocks, it makes them darker/differentiating color to show the border physically. I'm not a programmer so I dunno if this incredibly difficult, or even impossible. But the idea of being able to set up businesses, societies, entire infrastructures, and not simply out of a building that the designer has given you, but that you made the building.

Essentially, this could be like Second Life(if it was actually cool) meets Civilzation meets Garry's Mod, with Woflenstein/DOOM era graphics.
