making a server

I have a server question; I downloaded the server software, Edited the server.properties, and ran start server.bat. Then i used the World of Minecraft hack thingy to find my server. when i clicked OK it said connecting. 2 seconds later it says the server is down. (and i have internet) PLZZZ help!!!!

I have the exact same problem, only my computer has the firewall disabled and ports forwarded. I'm desperate for help.

your firewall is probarbly blocking the connections, make sure u have your ports fowarded.
