Map size problems

It seems the client and the browser based client does not like anything over about 768x768x64 for me. I made a 1024x1024x128 map with omen on a non-public server just for me to mess around on, and the client just freezes when I try to join it.

Is there any way to help it deal with the larger size map?

I have a slow time loading most of the large servers as it is. 1024x1024x128 would kill my computer.

Keep in mind data is stored for every block type, block location and block status, as well as lighting and the location of players.

I think the 'safe' zone is marked around 700-800.

There will inevitably be some people who can connect easier than others, so even if you manage to bolster your own client to cope with such a large dimension, others may have trouble in connecting to your server.
