For teen motorists, the tiwi sounds like the perfect solution. The on-board computer monitors predefined "dangerous" behaviors and notifies both the driver and also the parents of this activity. The tiwi was at first produced for fleet drivers but is being marketed to mother and father of teens. Is the computer really worth the cost and effort?

Article Source: Monitoring driving routines - Is the tiwi worth it

How tiwi functions

The tiwi unit is an on-board computer that connects to the diagnostic port on most cars. The computer analyzes seatbelt use, zealous acceleration along with other "dangerous" driving behaviors. That info is combined with GPS coordinates on the unit to create a full picture from the driver's actions. After particular pre-set activities, the unit vocally reminds the driver from the mistake, and sends a notification to a pre-set telephone, e-mail or sms system.

The tiwi advantages

The tiwi is really useful. For teen drivers, it will avoid numerous accidents. It's also useful for parents to track the activities of a automobile. In fleet-driving circumstances, managers and bosses are going to be able to keep an eye about the activity and behavior of their employees. The tiwi assists 1 individual maintain monitor of an additional -- and provides reinforcement of good driving conduct.

Tiwi and its drawbacks

The tiwi program is, just like other tracking systems, intended for very helpful purposes. It raises questions of protection of privacy and safety, nevertheless. Because tiwi connects directly to cell-phone networks and also the computer's diagnostic port, there's a possible for vulnerability to hacking. There's also a "big brother" aspect that is of every movement of the vehicle becoming tracked. For employees that are driving company automobiles, this may not be as big of an issue - but for any 17- or 18-year-old driver, it could possibly be slightly a lot more sticky. In the end, the tiwi may be helpful, but it's really worth carefully thinking about whether the $ 200 initial cost and $ 40 per month subscription fee is really worth it for loved ones.

That's pretty off-topic. And

That's pretty off-topic. And I'm almost worried it's spam :P. None-the-less, I think it's only a matter of time before things like this become more and more popular. Spying is something parents like to do. But as mentioned, it risks being hacked and monitored by unwanted eyes. Could be used to stalk and what not. I'm sure there is layers of protection that could be added to prevent something like that though. In the end, I don't think the pros outweigh the cons, but I do have a feeling it'll still be pushed on kids by paranoid parents.

Warning!

Potentially old-guy speak incoming:

The only thing that drives me crazy about kids' driving is the stupid music that kids like now. And what's worse is that they feel the need to force everyone else to listen to it by turning up the volume to obnoxiously high levels.
