So by the topic, most of you may be thinking "topic's going to be silly nonsense devised by some kid and it's going to be a waste of time". To be honest, if that's what you think, then why bother at all?

Regardless,

I recently had this idea when I discovered MCzall. The amount of things you can do in it in comparison to MCsharp are mindblowing, as well as what you can do vs. Minecraft as default. You may know where this is going. Me and a few friends stumbled upon the /zombie command. It spawns an outrageous Cobblestone/Green doubledecker block that chases you around and if it touches you you force respawn and it says you died due to lack of a brain.

Cool stuff. But I've never really seen it used online before. Online seems to mostly still be all about building. Build whatever you like, but you can't grief what's already there. This is fine, I don't mind this, but it's too much of the ordinary. What makes XX server so special over YY server if the premise is the exact same?

Nothing.

And again, that's the whole point of the game, I get it. But what if we expanded on the idea a bit...

I'm currently working on a project that involves making a city. Not just a city though, but a city infested with zombies. It sounds generic, but that doesn't change the fact that it could be fun. To start the server I'm going to make a makeshift city, it won't be too awful huge but all buildings will be fully explorable so there'll be a lot of places to go and a lot to do, I will also be utilizing proper doors and designate a single safe haven where players will start, similar to a L4D deal.

Ultimately there may even be a goal, or goals, but that's not entirely easy to do with Minecraft, so I go with what I have to work with. All buildings that the server starts with will not be destroyable or buildable, however there will be several empty lots where players may build whatever they please. If they want to be silly, they can make impossible safe havens in these lots, that's entirely up to them. Those who make a serious project without abuse will have their lot locked, allowing nobody else to build or destroy in it. In the end, the final result should be a bustling city with the drama of zombies and maybe even some other things running around that players must avoid. It would be critical to try and prevent areas where zombies could be trapped from being built.

I like the idea personally, but it might just be me. There's a few concerns for something like this, though;

First of all. If a zombie were to wander in an area where players can build/break, they could just kill the zombies and I'd have to manually spawn more whenever I log back on if I see a shortage. Would there be any way around this?

Secondly, players flying and ruining the experience. Self-explanatory, how do you propose to enjoy yourself on a server about survival if you're cheating? People would more or less screw themselves on this one and shouldn't hinder other players too much.

In a nutshell, the city will be extravagant. I'm not aiming for a bunch of skyscraping massive buildings and that's it. First of all, that's too much space to explore. A limit would have to be in place, if every building is an arching tower then it's just ridiculous.

As well, the city can't be just a city. Stuff has to be going on. Accidents, as a result from the outbreak, such as wrecked vehicles and fires. It should be interesting and I have already began work on the project.

I'm not asking for initial help, I'm asking if this kind of thing sounds remotely interesting. As far as I know, this hasn't really been tried before. At least not seriously, but I could be mistaken.

I like it.

It sounds amazing, but you would have to get a big player count for it to be really enjoyable. Although a zombie invasion is exciting, keep in mind that with MCZall zombies you could cover the doors and not have to worry about getting eaten. For extra fun you should include bunkers with mounted rocket launchers. The problem with rocket launchers would be that there an excellent griefing tool, so it would remain just an idea.

I would love to see this.

I imagine that there'd be a

I imagine that there'd be a lot of ways a player could stay reasonably safe, even outside the original safe haven. It'll be a tricky project of placing Zombies correctly and building very carefully to try and get the most out of the whole deal. It'll also be partially reliant on players wanting to build some things of their own, elsewise it'll always just be half of a city with numerous empty lots, which isn't all bad I suppose but it's certainly not ideal.

I may even place a fiery_phoenix or two just to be an ass and keep people on their toes. After-all, what's the deal if there's just a bunch of ground-based killers and no flying ones whatsoever?

Putting forth goals would be the best idea and I'm gonna have to look into how I'll do it. Elsewise, it's just a server where you aimlessly run around avoiding zombies for no real reason and eventually just get bored of it.

Well then whenever the server is up, I'll come take a look at it.
