Minecraft freezes after joining a server

I've been playing with some friends on their server the past couple of days. Today it suddenly froze on me, a few seconds after I was blown up by a creeper. It's never frozen on me before and now every time now I try to log in to the server, it'll be fine for about 5-10 seconds then suddenly stop completely, or run at about 0.2 fps and I usually have to ctrl-alt-del out. I've tried lowering graphics which does nothing. My PC is a 3.16ghz dual core, 4gb ram, ATi 4770 graphics card, Windows 7 64 bit, latest DX and Catalyst drivers.

I've updated Java to the latest version, 64 bit, tried Java 7 as well with no joy. The browser version does exactly the same thing. The strange thing is that other multiplayer servers work fine, as does the single player, it's just this specific server. The other people on the server haven't experienced anything similar, so I don't know if rebooting the server (I don't know much about this) could solve the problem?

Also, I don't seem to be able to die, I tried falling from height and took no damage. The /kill command also doesn't work.

Thanks!

Sounds Like:

To me it sounds like you are running out of memory or system resources. Try closing everything, including process running in the background. Launch minecraft and see how it goes.

I use to have the same problem on an old laptop I used. If I had iTunes, Firefox, Minecraft and Outlook open Minecraft would grind to a half and die. As soon as I closed everything else it worked sweet.

The last alternative is assign in more memory at command line using "cmd"using the following command "java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp Minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame"

I believe that is correct. Good luck!

I tried running it with no

I tried running it with no other programs running, still get the same problem.

It only affects this one server, other servers with much more complex worlds run smoothly.

Could it be a problem with the server corrupting my avatar or something? I'm sure if I joined it with a different account it would work fine but I am not paying for minecraft twice!

Please somehow help, I can't play the game right now and it's frustrating!

Ok...

Well I'm out of ideas, you may need to contact minecraft support. You have probably found a bug.

Good luck.

Fix

Turns out, there is possibly no fix for it, its just a shoddy connection.

After a while it corrects itself.
