Minecraft Server ports won't open! Help!

No matter what i do, my friends cannot connect to my server! the only way i can get on is using "local Host" in direct connect! the only answer i ever get is go to portforward.com but it lacks details and didnt help. can anyone help me out? I portforward using d'link 4500, virtual server.

Well Archis136, although i don't have a Minecraft server this happened when i tried to make my own, i went into my router settings and tried to port forward it, this did not work because i had the wrong settings, but i did not read to carefully and crashed my wireless internet and it had to get fixed, but here is a website that should help you;

All you have to do is find your router and it will show you how to port forward your router for a Minecraft Server :)
