Heya, Before we can help you

Heya,

Before we can help you set up your server, we need to know what exactly isn't working properly.

The starting and running of the server is pretty straight forward, just download the files and run the program. But the problem most people run into, is that people can't connect to the server.

This could be cause by port forwarding. Make sure you open up the port that is beeing used by MineCraft.
The default port number used is 25565

In order to open this, go into your router's settings and change port settings so the port is open.
You can find more detailed information about Port Forwarding in this forum post: http://www.worldofminecraft.com/pf . Read all of it, specially post Nr 5.

The second thing that could be causeing people to not be able to connect, is your firewall. Make sure your firewall allowes people in. You can let people you trust in by using their IP addresses, but this means you can't open up the server to the public. Another way you can do it is by allowing 'Minecraft' itself to go through your firewall.

I hope this helped a bit.

xXx

Ah yes, it could very well be that problem. I had that too when I first started my server :).
Give it a go, and if it doesn't work, post again and we'll help you :)
