So i double checked to make sure all the file names in the zip were the same as in the minecraft.jar, but when i try to select the texture pack in the folder in the menu, it still is the default textures ingame.

Fix

Hey, so i had the same problem. The problem was an extra folder- ie. if you were to open the zip there would be a skin folder, with everything else in it. I copied all the folders+files inside skin, out to the main folder for texture packs. (So now there was a bunch of folders and files + the original zip i made) Now i selected only the files and folders excluding the zip, right clicked, and used winrar to make a new zip. Then i deleted the old one. What i was left with was a zip, where clicking into it immediately showed the folders like gui, and the picture files. This fixed the problem. Hopefully its whats happening to you!

Fix2

Very easy is this:

Step 1: download the texture pack you like.
step 2:  create a zip file (with winrar is easy to me)
Step 3: Copy (ctrl+c) all the files EXCEPT the readme.
Step 4: Press paste(ctrl+v) in the zip you've made.
Step 5: open minecraft and press texture packs in the menu it open a new folder for you
The final step: drag your made zip into the folder minecraft made for you then close that folder and if it's right you can click the second texture pack.
