Server Software Issue

I downloaded the sever software from the multi-player part on Minecraft.net then extracted the file and attempted to run it. It just gives me a message saying " Java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
"Press and key to continue..."
Anyone no how i can fix this???
