You have to set veify_names

You have to set veify_names to false in the properties file.

Once you do that, connect using this link: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?ip=127.0.0.1&port=25565

you connect by the link

you connect by the link miclee gave you. other people connect with the link in externalurl.txt

you should only turn verifynames to false if you are eunning peivate otherwise acoounts can be stolen

Hm

The most common reason for this is that you haven't port forwarded correctly (or atall).

Go to http://portforward.com and try there.

That's because they cannot

That's because they cannot connect with that link, only you. They must connect with the link in externalurl.txt.

Same Problem

Ok Guys Ive Had The Same Problem. My Server Is A Successful Running Server Because Other People Can Log On, But For Some Reason It Wont Let Me. I Tried Updating Java, Replacing The Minecraft.jar File, And Many Other Things, But NOTHING Works. Its Kinda Sad When You Cant Even Log Into Your Own Server And See The Creations Your Guest Are Making. "BTW, I Can Log Into Other Peoples Servers Just Fine, But It Wont Let Me Into My Own."

can you guys not read the other threads on this site or somthing

USE YOUR EYES AND LOOK!!!! god dammit, please so ranting and raving and look at some of the other threads that explain why this is happening! http://www.worldofminecraft.com/pf  this explains almost everything. the tutorial i wrote on hosting in through the link so READ IT!

The minecraft classic server can be downloaded here: http://minecraft.net/minecraft-server.zip if this doesnt appear as a link just cop and paste it into the address bar. once its downloaded just extract it and run the file with .bat at the end. if it dont work first time and you get an error close it and open it again, that  normally fixes it. you DONT need to port foward for classic, since there is a connection between the server and minecraft.net but you cannot host on the same computer as you play it on. you will need to get a proxy to do that there is a guide here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRXJ2wgKA34 hope this helps!

What I did:

I did this in windows xp, for the same problem:

First, i went into my antivirus firewall (Kaspersky) and made a total exception for both Minecraft.exe and the port 25565.

Then, i went to the firewall settings in the control panel and made an exception there for both the Minecraft.exe and port 25565 (TCP).

Then, i Port Forwarded port 25565, and clicked the enable checkmark... your experience may very, especially if u dont have the same router as i do.  It took me two weeks to do 5 minutes of exception work.  Have fun minecrafting.
