Sprites on World of Minecraft- some rules

Sprites can be awesome. We all know this. But I've heard several discussions about how annoying sprites can be (both location and repetitive Mario sprites). But my question is, if there's a forum reset, should there be some kind of rules governing sprites and their locations?

The problem I find with sprites at the moment is this-
Firstly, they must have a grand amount of empty space (x=1.5 x height of sprite) in front of them for them to be seen. When a server becomes full (as they inevitably do), space becomes somewhat rarer than platinum.

Secondly, they are, in essence, a wall across the playing field.

Should they be kept at the boundaries of the server? Should the admin/archs have the right to rearrange sprites into a more compact formation? Should the sprites be built at least fourteen blocks in the air? Should there be a no-2D-mario sprite rule? Is this even an issue?

Discuss below.

Yeeaaa, about that Mario... And Link...

I dunno, I've seen some really cool sprites that were just astounding. Then again, I've seen 9001 Marios, Luigis, Links, MasterSwords, Pokemon, Goombas, -Insert other Sprite content here-, SONIC. Yea, way overdone, and usually takes no skill and can be copied from previous maps. However, I occasionally see a really good one that is origional and very well executed. Just to throw one, charrr makes origional sprites that at amazing to see, not something you shrug off when your looking for a spot. Perhaps if its a routine thing that lacks artistical value, remove it? If its amazing, keep on edges?

Keep it vertical. Keep it

Keep it vertical. Keep it near the edges. Keep it out of the way of real buildings. We aren't going to censor any sort of sprites unless they're against policy, so mario sprites are allowed. But for your own sake, be more creative on picking your sprites.

I also hate people that build a giant sprite in front  or to the side of something really good.

I think all sprites should be

I think all sprites should be moved to the outside walls by an arch+, and an assigned area from the outside walls to 10 blocks in, where no one can build, so that people may see the sprites.
It's a win-win; no one gets their sprite blocked and buildings don't get blocked by sprites.

I second that idea. Perhaps a ten-square 'moat' of reserved, no-build area, leaving a two-block gap around the perimeter of the server.

The sprite build

The sprite build area would be easily susceptable to grief. People will find a spot hard to find, and will often delete other's work to place their own. And with that, the only people who should be able to build there (only to relocate sprites) are archs+. They can regulate the sprites better then the members can.

Although yes, it would be a bit easier on the archs+ to not have to relocate as much sprites because they can build the sprites against the wall. Although this will mean that the wall thing'd have to be a rule. And to be fair, what noobish common-sprite spammer pays attention?

Wise words

So, it comes down to this;

a) Leave the system as it is.
b) Make an area for people to build within.
c) Give work to the Architects.

We could, in fact, do b and c. People who grief other creations to fit in their own would be removed from the server anyway. That's already a problem with limited space. And if they run out of wall for a particularly large sprite, the Architects can shift the others around. There should be enough space on the y-axis for a decent amount of sprites.

As to the sprites which appear in places other than the wall, those could be moved as and when they appear.

There will, inevitably, always be exceptions.

maybe to add to that we could

maybe to add to that we could have larger maps like Plains....That map was so big half of it was cut off until one side was full.

if we had more maps like that we could just off a whole ton of wall just for sprites

I think the idea to set the

I think the idea to set the sprites on the walls is good, cause some dudes build theyr sprites right infront of some really good buildings, without thinking of what they are doing.
And one question, Is it doable to set assigned areas on the walls, so that there are no problems witch griefers?

___

It's possible to make specific areas which overlap to preserve sprites, yes, but it's unlikely it'd be needed. If someone griefs another sprite, they'll be penalized accordingly.

Having sprites on the walls will make patrolling and /whodids easier.

This should be added to /policy.

I've always been bothered by

I've always been bothered by sprites as well. What I was thinking was to either have a separate server or map for them. Maybe a multi-room, multi-floor map for every server possibly. Just my two cents.
