So if you have not been the Mojang home page, you will need to download a new launcher for 1.6
https://mojang.com/2013/06/minecraft-1-6-pre-release/ is the pre-release of 1.6 and from there you can get the new launcher and you can always go back to 1.5.2 on the new launcher

Be warned that World of Minecraft will not update as soon as 1.6 is availiable. We will probably update anywhere from a week to a month afterwards.

Its now 1.6.1 that will be released due to bug fixing but mojang did not push back the release date so its still july first

EDIT: Yeah, just checked it, the chest can contain: Iron, gold, gold chestplate, gold sword, horse armour, saddle, flint and steel, netherwart, diamond.

I've always been dissapointed in the Nether. It was a big chance for an adventure and to add some sort of storyline to the Minecraft universe... but it's just another world with different resources and different mobs. The new chests don't even make sense to me.
What use do the blazes have for gold, iron, armour, swords, horse armour, saddles, or diamonds? The netherwart and flint and steel... ehh, Mojang could of done it better, adding a new item that works like the flint and steel but for the nether.

There is an item that works like flint and steel but for the nether, it is called a fire charge.
It could be the wither skeletons that are keeping all the stuff that they collected from the bodies of dead steves in their chests.
