Unable to log in

I have installed hte latest version of java and World of Minecraft in attempt to get to use it, and it allways say unable to authenticate. I am using windows 8 so that might be the problem , but i am not sure. I know have i have downloaded it correctly. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

You do not wanted to have the latest version of java, you want to have version 6 instead of version 7.
Version 7 is known to cause this error.
