I started making a minecraft server when it was in alpha but it wasnt finished but now when i try to open it it says 'outdated'. If you know how to update it please leave a comment or pm me

do you mean download beta or download the beta multiplayer

The server has no auto update utility, every time the client is updated you need to go to minecraft.net and download the latest minecraft_server.exe file, just delete the old one and replace it, you can leave the world folder and the other files.

im really confused about this now. so i download the new minecraft and delete the old one and that should work?

YES just go to minecraft.net and download the latest server files, please try it before asking if thats what you are ment to do, i dont have time to look at 10,0000 posts asking if what i have said is what they need to do!

Logic would say to go download the beta version for minecraft.net.
