I would like you to share your inventions using the new items.(ladders, doors and even signs) in this thread. I think they are very practical and we can do some really cool things with them.
For example: 
the Safety Phone Box.
It's just made of 4 doors, a chest (as the floor), a step tile and 4 torches that are not neccesary. You can put some food or weapons in the chest and then, if you're being chased by monsters it can be your salvation. (it is just an example, there's no need to build such a thing , but it's cool lol)

It seems doors don't protect you like a wall.

Their probably too thin, the collision detection isn't the greatest, if you notice even on full walls, around the corners you can occasionally see an arm or a leg from a baddie sticking through which can still hurt you.
Reminds me of the Tardis though. :)

you need to use infdev not indev... notch decided that he will be a half assed maniac and wont update indev anymove you have to use infdev

Archers can still fire through the doors too, when I'm making a saferoom, I always make sure the exits have double doors or a ladder leading up or down to them. Another words, some method to make sure that monsters don't stay in line of sight with you when you go hide.

As for another tip, staircases are one of my essentials in caverns, If I'm getting chased, I don't want to spend my time jumping up rocks constantly while archers bombard me. :p.
